The Iron Gate Shoppe Wins the 2006 Annual Seattle Street of Dreams Contract
After an invitation for project proposal submission by Seattle Street of Dreams Executive Director, John Heller, The Iron Gate Shoppe was selected to design and build the main property entrance gate for the 2006 event. Since this year’s location is the Dodd Ranch, Mr. Heller was looking for a gate concept with a strong ranch theme. Don Ward, owner of The Iron Gate Shoppe, began the project with photographs and research of the property location, as well as construction and styles of ranch gates in Eastern Washington. After taking inspiration from original wood ranch style gates, the design was simplified to provide a clean and classic look, complimenting the luxury home community. Since typical wood gates require considerable maintenance and upkeep to withstand year-round weather conditions, the gate was designed and constructed out of metal rails to simulate the appearance of wood rails, but provide a medium that would be virtually maintenance free. The metal was primed and powder coated with a slight surface texture to provide a more rustic appearance and provide long lasting protection from the elements. As a final touch, embossed metal rail straps were added to complete the western flair. Installation and automation was provided by Gate Technologies, one of The Iron Gate Shoppe’s recommended partners. You can see the gate at the 2006 Seattle Street of Dreams, which runs July 15 to August 20, 2006 at Dodd Ranch at Allen Lake on the Sammamish Plateau.
